  1. Congratulations to Patrick Millar for the correct answer. The fish is is the Shad and Herring Family, known as the Clupeidae. This fish in the photo looks like a Blueback Herring, but other possibilities in a brackish marsh in Delaware during the summer include Hickory Shad or possibly an American Shad. No matter what the fish’s exact identity, the Clupeidae are a very important part of the food chain in the Delaware Bay ecosystem. – Derek Stoner
